Moving to team
Congratulations!  Moving up to the competitive gymnastics team is a huge honor.  Less than 10% of the entire population at our gym makes it this far.  Mainly because they lack patience.  Thank you for being patient through the process you have completed.  Now it is time for more patience!  Your training has really just begun!  Your first month of team, you will be bombarded with new terminology, and asked to try skills you have never attempted.  It might be intimidating, and a bit overwhelming.  The hours are long, the skills are hard!  Hang in there!  Everybody on team has gone through this, and you are not alone.  Try your best to be a good sport, and try new skills, even if you can’t do them yet.  You will eventually learn how to do everything, if you are patient!  If your dream is to someday be the best, it can happen!  You can go as far as you choose!  It takes about one year average to learn a “V-sit,” and a “Press handstand.”  It also takes about one year to learn the entire level 4 bar routine.  For your first year, you will probably only be able to do a couple of skills on bars.  Don’t get discouraged!  You might not think so at times, but you will get better every day.  If you stay on team for 3 years, you will learn a full twisting layout, and possibly much more.  A full twisting layout is required for the majority of college cheerleading squads.  You will most always automatically make high school varsity as a freshmen if you have this skill.  National Champions, N.C. State, require a double twisting layout.  It is highly unlikely that you will ever learn this skill, if you are not on the gymnastics team.  Please do not come late or leave early.  If you miss one of your days, come another day to make it up.  Attending at least 3 days is a requirement.
The team does approximately FIVE THOUSAND back handsprings every year.  Compare that to the poor girl who shows up for one month of gymnastics before cheerleading tryouts!  This is a great opportunity for you.  Embrace it, enhance it, and don’t waste your talent by quitting, shy of reaching your highest potential.  On the team, there is a great deal of repetition, but it is necessary to improve.  Try to remain inspired, focused, and consistent.  Here are the rules:
(There is a one time $100 initiation fee for all new team members.  Please see Tana about a team uniform, and other important information.)
